KARACHI: MQM chief Altaf Hussain, while talking to a televised press conference, said that it was never his intention nor was there any plan for the events that unfolded in Karachi on May 12, 2007. He also said that both the PPP and Nawaz Sharif did not implement the Charter of Diplomacy.
He was addressing a televised press conference from London on Friday. Altaf Hussain alleged that criminal elements belonging to the MQM Haqiqi were supplied with weapons by the Jamaat-e-Islami’s militant wing, the Thunder Squad. He also claimed that Haqiqi members were given money and given instructions to fire on the MQM rally on May 12.
Altaf Hussain also spoke of a conspiracy to break up Pakistan, reiterating that he was committed to Pakistan and remained a stumbling block against the enemies of Pakistan. On this occasion, he held up a purported leaked CIA map which details a vision of the Middle East with a divided Pakistan.

Altaf Hussain had spent much of last week in the hospital, giving rise to rumours that he had been arrested for attempting to flee to South Africa.
